Prevalence of Onychomycosis in Fish Traders in Kopro Market West Jakarta

Abstract

Nail fungus or onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails or hands caused by various types of fungi, such as non-dermatophytic fungi and dermatophytic fungi (tinea unguium). The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence, distribution characteristics of age, sex, causes of fungi in fish traders in Kopro market, West Jakarta. This type of research is a Cross-sectional Descriptive Study carried out in December 2018 - January 2019. The examination preparation was 10% KOH and culture in Saboraud Dextrose Agar. Based on the results of the study, non-dermatophytic fungi were found in 15 study samples (100%), with a positive sample of nail traders as many as 13 people (86.7%) buying productively between 15-64 years. While those who were non-productive (≥ 65 years) were 2 people (13.3%). As well as getting the most infections in women 8 people (53.3%). And Candida albicans was found more in fish traders as many as 7 people (46.7%) then Aspergillus niger as many as 3 people (20.0%) and Aspergillus flavus as many as 1 person (6.7%). This is related to fish workers who need long-term contact with air and are often one of the supporting factors for Candida infection.
